The Courage to Be Obedient

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."--Joshua 1:9

It is really easy to slip into fear and complacency.  Why is it that we argue with God when He tells us to do something knowing that He has never failed us in the past and will not in the future?  I am trying to stay strong and courageous no matter the circumstances around me.  I am trying to take time daily to listen to God and follow His plan for my future.  I am trying to leave Him in the driver's seat and not take over.  When fear and doubt sneak up on me, I am stopping to look around me and thank God for the blessings that are in my life.  There are many.  You just have to pay attention and look.  If you aren't spending time with God on a regular basis, fear and doubt will sneak right in.  And, I'm not talking about just going to church once or twice a week.  I'm talking about making God a part of your daily life and talking to Him personally.  That also means taking the time to listen, which is hard.  I'm still learning to be still and really listen.  What have you found that works for you?

How do you connect with God?
How do you find the courage to be obedient?
How do you know you're hearing God's voice?
What if your friends or family are encouraging you not to listen?  (We all know that's not how they would word it, but it is the same nonetheless)

Please comment.  I really do want to start a conversation and really do want you to spend time thinking about this.  Please don't worry about saying the "right thing" in the "right way."  Just comment.  Let's struggle through this together.

My prayers are constantly for the courage to be obedient.

  1. I think connecting with God is just always keeping him in the forefront of your thoughts...no matter what you are doing. It's not just saying a dinner prayer or night time prayer. It is being mindful throughout the day of God. Sometimes, I think I might connect with him in the best way when I cannot utter the words or describe what I want to say and then just ask him to look into my heart and see what I am feeling. Also, how do I know when I'm hearing God's voice? That's hard to describe. I just kind of know. It's such a confident quiet thought that I know is the right thing to do and logically I can argue and argue but the thought is steadfast. That's God.
